THURINGER South Sioux City - Loren William Thuringer, 74, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, Iowa, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joeph's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a scripture servie at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mr. Thuringer was born May 8, 1925, in Parkston, S.D., the son of Frank and Anna (Tischler) Thuringer. He graduated from Parkston High School and then attended Springfield Teacher's College in Springfield, S.D. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947, as a medical corpsman. Following his discharge, he returned to Parkston, where he was employed as a produce manager with the K & K Store. He moved to Akron in 1956. He married Claire Bay on Aug. 9, 1960, in Akron. He owned the K & K Store from 1960 to 1968. He was then employed with G.W. Grocery Store in Akron and Tom's IGA in South Sioux City for many years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars in South Sioux City. He was a former member of American Legion Hoschler Post 186. Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Patty Oaks of South SiouxCity; a brother and his wife, Marvin and Pat of Spencer, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry. Pallbearers will be Steve Shea, Tom Waterbury, Mike Huisenga, Wayne Buum, Bill Manley, Gene Waag and Mark Thuringer.
