Description	:	Lorene V. Cattau, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, January 18, 2016, at the Columbus Community Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23 at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev.'s Michael Klatt, Cory Burma, and Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, rural Columbus. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Cattau, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, January 18, 2016, at the Columbus Community Hospital. Lorene was born June 9, 1918, to Emil and Ella (Korte) Wilke in Platte County, Nebraska. She was baptized on June 20, 1918, and confirmed her Christian faith on May 13, 1932, at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Walter Cattau on August 31, 1939, at Christ Lutheran Church and to this union three sons were born. The couple farmed until 1954, then moved to Columbus for three years before moving back to the farm in 1957. Lorene worked as a cook at the Columbus and Lakeview High Schools and at numerous restaurants in the area. In 1968, she opened a breakfast kitchenette with her sister Hulda, which they operated together for a number of years. She was a caregiver for the elderly for many years. Lorene enjoyed embroidery work, reading, and especially the many bus tours that she took. She was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus.
