Read More	Lorenz Thomsen, Pioneer Resident, Dies at 96 Years Lorenz Thomsen, pioneer resident of Antelope County died Monday morning, December 2, 1946, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Baker, in Neligh, at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 3 days. Lorenz Thomsen was born to Peter and Maria Hansen Thomsen, on June 29, 1850, at Resbic, Schleswig-Holstein. He attended Danish school until the age of 13 years, then attended German school for three years. He remained on the farm with his parents until 1869. In April of 1869 he came to the United States and located in Lyons, Iowa, where for the first year he worked on a farm, later coming to town to complete his education with a practical business experience. He worked at several lines, the first eighteen months being associated with a clothing establishment. He came to Nebraska in 1873 and settled on a homestead north of Oakdale, the same being still in the possession of the family. In June of that year he was united in marriage to Anna Michaelson, and they made their home on the farm till 1899, when they moved to Tilden. Mrs. Thomsen passed away at Tilden in 1926, but Mr. Thomsen continued to maintain the home in Tilden until 1942, moving to Neligh to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. G. Carstensen. Since September of this year he has been with his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Baker, in Neligh. Mr. Thomsen was a true pioneer of Antelope County. He endured all the hardships of early homestead life and was one of those who contributed to the making of a new country by his active participation in all community projects. His record as public servant is unequaled in the county. He served as a member of the Board of Supervisors of Antelope County for 26 years, resigning in November 1918. During most of those years he served as chairman of the Board. He asked the Board to accept his resignation in order that he might take a much needed rest in California, and the supervisor-elect was named to fill the unexpired term. Surviving are: his son, Peter H. Thomsen of Tilden; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Baker, of Neligh; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife; a son, who died in infancy; and his daughter, Mrs. Maria Carstensen, who died in September of this year. Services were held from the Neligh Methodist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1946, at two o'clock p.m., with Rev. Dawson Park in charge. Serving as pallbearers were Henry Thomas, Louis Fallesen, Carsten Lorenzen, Anton Shabram, Arnold Simonsen and Carsten Hansen. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
