Read More	Loretta Belle Smith McAlpine January 04, 1916 - January 29, 2011 CUMBERLAND — Loretta Belle (Brotemarkle) Smith McAlpine, 95, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late F. Rolland and Belva (Growden) Brote-markle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James R. Smith Sr.; her second husband, James Mc-Alpine; her brother, Luther Brotemarkle and his wife Henrietta; and her daughter-in-law, Katherine “Kitty” Smith. Loretta graduated from the Pennsylvania Avenue School in 1933. She had been a clerk at Schwartzenbach’s Clothing Store and was later manager of Rosenbaum’s Department Store in the Searstown Shopping Center. In addition, Loretta was involved with several jewelry companies. She was the regional manager for Sarah Coventry Jewelry, sold for Contempo Jewelry De-signs, and was regional manager for Jewels by Park Lane, Inc. A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Loretta enjoyed being advisor to the Luther League. She was also involved in the community, having been a past president and member of the Cumberland Soroptimist Club for 33 years; past president and member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Delta Master Chapter for 62 years; served on the Board of Directors and Ladies Auxiliary of the Cumberland YMCA; member of Re Temple 118, Daughters of the Nile; and member of the Allegany County Association for Family and Community Education. Loretta belonged to the Women’s Sport Club for many years, enjoying all types of card games. Survivors include her son, J. Robert Smith, of Cumberland; three granddaughters, Stacy Dowd and husband Matt, of Leesburg, Va., Jade Folk and husband Paul, of York, Pa., and Jamie Smith, of Baltimore; three great-grandchildren, Shaina Folk, Adam Dowd, and Keira Dowd; one nephew, Martin L. Brotemarkle, of Hendersonville, N.C.; and one niece, JoAnn Post, of Farmington Hills, Mich. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, corner of Washington and Smallwood Sts., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Marsha Garrett officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Jon Markley, Ron Shaffer, Reed Clingerman, Shawn Groves, Bob Martin Jr., and Mike McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Cook and “J.R.” Robinson. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood Sts., Cumberland, MD 21502 or to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children, c/o Ali Ghan Shrine, P.O.
