William Thalacker will officiate at the services.Surviving is her husband, Max, 5 children; David Specht of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, Elizabeth (Steve) Johnson and Paul (Kim) Specht, both of Monticello, Philip (Sharon) Specht and Daniel Specht both of McGregor, 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, 3 brothers; Arbie Thalacker, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Harold (Dorothy) Thalacker of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Lloyd Thalacker, of Independence Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her Parents, 4 brothers Paul, Edwin, Chester and Arnold, and a sister Elizabeth.Loretta Ella Thalacker, was born February 21, 1912 in Dakota, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Paul and Ida Wagner Thalacker. Loretta graduated from the Wood County Schools with a Normal Teaching Certificate. She then taught and studied at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Milwaukee and later taught in rural schools in Wisconsin. Loretta E. Thalacker and Max W. Specht were married December 26, 1938 at Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The couple farmed in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa. Loretta continued her teaching career after her children were grown, returning to the University of Iowa and getting her degree in 1966. She taught several years in Linn County rural schools and then taught the Special Education in the Monticello Community Schools. A retired teacher, she taught children to pray, swim, read, and be involved. Loretta was dedicated to her family, church and community with decades of volunteer service as a Sunday School Teacher, 4H Leader, and leadership in numerous organizations, including, S.S. Peter and Paul Ladies Aid, Council for the Area Agency on Aging, the Federated Garden Club of Monticello, Jones County Porkettes, the Dairy Promotion Committee, Farm Bureau Women and the Jones County Historical Society. Loretta was a 50 + year member of the Worthwhile Homemakers Club. She was involved with the family farm until her death and was Maxs life partner for 63 years. The family suggests that memorials be made to S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church.
