Description	:	Mrs. Loretta Steele Mrs. Loretta Steele, 78, lifelong resident of the Douds community, died Sunday at 9:30 p.m. She had been a patient for the past three weeks in the Curtis nursing home in Ottumwa. She was born in the Douds community and had lived there all her life with the exception of four years spent in Johnson county, Missouri. Her husband, James, Ramsey of Birmingham; one son, vived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ramsey of Birmingham; one osn (son), Rex, of Verdi, Nevada, and eight grandchildren. LORETTA STEELE DIES JAN. 21 Loretta Smith, oldest child of George and Ella Smith, was born March 9, 1872 in Leando and died Jan. 21, 1951 at the Curtis nursing home in Ottumwa at the age of 78 years. Most of her life was lived in the vicinity in which she was born. She married James A. Steele on March 27, 1888. four children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Ruth Ramsey, Birmingham, and Rex Steele, Verdi, N.M., eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1937, two brothers, and two sisters. She was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 23 at the Pedrick funeral home at Douds in charge of Rev. E.K. Parrott, Packwood. Source: Van Buren Co.
