Description	:	COLUMBUS – Loretta M. Schessler, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 1991, in Stillwater Convalescent Center in Columbus of natural causes. She was born in Kaulb, Russia, on June 29, 1901, a daughter of Peter and Katherine Minch. The family moved to Burlington, Iowa in 1902. In subsequent years they lived in Sugar City, Idaho and in Ritzville, Wash., before moving to Park City in 1912. Loretta married William Schessler in 1928. The family moved to Columbus in 1938. Schessler, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 1991, in Stillwater Convalescent Center in Columbus of natural causes. She was born in Kaulb, Russia, on June 29, 1901, a daughter of Peter and Katherine Minch. The family moved to Burlington, Iowa in 1902. In subsequent years they lived in Sugar City, Idaho and in Ritzville, Wash., before moving to Park City in 1912. Loretta married William Schessler in 1928. The family moved to Columbus in 1938. She was a seamstress and also cooked in Columbus in several places, then known as the Liberty Café, Rhodes Hotel, Marvin’s and the Little Brick Café. In 1949 she moved to Vancouver, Wash., where she continued her work in cooking, which was later combined with housekeeping in Vancouver and Kalama, Wash., and Newberg, Ore. She retired in Longview, Wash., and in 1980 returned to Montana to live at the Homestead Lodge in Absarokee. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends and growing plants. She knitted, crocheted pieced quilts and hooked rugs in addition to her other sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. George (Martha) Ekwortzel of Absarokee and Mrs. Sy (Margaret) Leibowitz of Juneau, Alaska; a sister, Kate Grant of Vancouver; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 11, in Smith-Cashmore Memorial Chapel, Laurel with burial in Park City Cemetery.
