Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Central City, with the Rev. Thomas Lucas officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Monticello, Ind., at a later date. Loretta was born on Feb. 4, 1922, in Archer to George and Marie (Haake) Retzlaff. She grew up in the Archer area and attended grade school at District 58 near Archer. She graduated from Archer High School in 1939. Following graduation she worked at the AAA Office in Central City, and then during World War II she went to California and worked at a service station, an airplane factory and for the Santa Fe Railroad in the Accounting Office. Loretta returned to Nebraska in 1945, and on July 3, 1947, was married to Earl Doan. She and Earl lived in Grand Island until September 1952, when Earl died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 29. On May 28, 1953, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. Foreman, and in the following years they lived in Grand Island, Kearney, Gibbon, Sidney, Broken Bow, Papillion, Chicago and finally settling in Monticello, Ind., in 1975. In each community Loretta found employment and a bowling team to join. She worked as the secretary of the Monticello Christian Church and then in the Accounts Payable Office, cost control and respiratory therapy at the Monticello Hospital until she returned to Central City in 1991 following Herbert’s death. She was an active member of the Central City United Methodist Church, volunteering in the church office each week and singing in the church choir and for weddings and funerals. Loretta was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Lone Tree Unit. She enjoyed bowling and continued to bowl into her 90s. She bowled a 200 game at the age of 89. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a brother, Delbert Retzlaff; and a sister, Lucille Rudolf. Survivors included three nieces, Geraldine Hansen and her husband, Mike, of Omaha; Gloria Evers of Clarks; and Rose Anne Sieler and her husband, Warren, of Colorado; a nephew, Dennis Retzlaff of Anchorage, Alaska; her caregiver and closest friend, Denice Dietz of Central City; and many other family members and friends.
