LORNA MAY SCOTT On Wednesday morning, October 2, 1940, at her home in Lamoni, Iowa, occurred the death of Lorna May Scott, the youngest of the family of five children of John and Sarah Scott. Lorna was born at Plano, Ill., May 15, 1877, and came with her parents to Lamoni on October 18, 1881, when the Herald Office was moved from Plano, Ill., and has made her home here since. LORNA MAY SCOTT On Wednesday morning, October 2, 1940, at her home in Lamoni, Iowa, occurred the death of Lorna May Scott, the youngest of the family of five children of John and Sarah Scott. Lorna was born at Plano, Ill., May 15, 1877, and came with her parents to Lamoni on October 18, 1881, when the Herald Office was moved from Plano, Ill., and has made her home here since. She was baptized at the age of 12 and has lived a good christian life. Lorna graduated with the high school class of 1895, it being rather unusual that in a class of 13 members in the 45 years, this being the first death. Then followed a year at Graceland [College]. In February 1900 she entered the post office service and for 31 years served In different capacities as assistant postmaster and clerk. After retiring from the service she remained at home and cared for an invalid sister until she passed away August 1935. Since that time she has lived most of the time alone in her home where she loved to be with her flowers, her friends, and neighbors, helping and doing good for others in her quiet way. Those surviving to mourn her loss are two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Anderson, of Lamoni; and Mrs. H. L. Ferguson, of Norwalk; three nieces, two nephews, and a host of friends. LORNA SCOTT IS TAKEN BY DEATH "Miss Scott Served In Post Office For Many Years— Death Attributed To Heart Ailment" Miss Lorna Scott passed away early Wednesday morning as the result of a heart attack suffered during the night. Her niece, Mrs. Mabel NOME, was with her at the time of death. As yet no definite arrangements have been made for the funeral, but tentative plans indicate that It will be held on Friday. Miss Scott had been in ailing health for the past two years, but was ill only a few hours before her death. Her parents preceded her In death, and she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. H. L. Fugerson, of Des Moines and Mrs. Daniel Anderson of Lamoni, and the niece, Mrs. Mabel Saint. Miss Scott served the patrons of the Lamoni post office for almost 34 years, retiring when the economy measure affecting postal employees went into effect. Being a member of a well-known and respected family. Miss Scott had a wide circle of friends who will regret her passing. She lived with her widowed sister Carrie for over 20 years then alone after Carrie's death. In 1900 and 1910, Lorna was employed as a clerk in the post office.
