Lorraine Carlson, daughter of Reuben and Sena (Lyng) Carlson was born June 12, 1933, at Dell Rapids Hospital. The family lived in Baltic, Menno, and Center Point until moving to Sioux Falls in 1939. Lorraine attended Hawthorne Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1951. On October 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to Dean Mann at First Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where she worked at Western Surety. Their daughter, ReNae, was born on October 16, 1954, and Lorraine became a full-time home maker. Lorraine was very active at Hope Lutheran Church where she was Sunday School Superintendent and served on the Altar Guild. She had many fond memories of the Moose Lodge where she helped cook many meals for birthdays, suppers, and the annual Poultry Party. She was also active in Officer Wives at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and with the South Dakota National Guard. Lorraine was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a “people person” and loved helping out. She enjoyed playing cards and Mah Jongg and she had many hobbies, including Counted Cross Stitch, crafting, and stamping with her many friends at Lake Traverse. She was an avid bowler carrying a 165 average in three women’s leagues, and she would substitute many other times. She loved Lake Traverse and the opportunities for fishing, boating, watching her granddaughter water ski, and socializing. Happy hour with all of her neighbors was special to her. Lorraine is survived by her husband Dean, daughter ReNae (Greg) Hays, granddaughter Libbie Hays, sister-in-laws Karen (Derald) Espeland, Judy (Les) Kizer; and brother-in-law David (Sarah) Mann, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her maternal and paternal grandparents, her mother and father in law, her brother Le Roy Carlson, his wife Dorothy, and 19 aunts and uncles.
