Description	:	Lorraine E. McCoy was born to Ethel and Haskell Davenport, Aug. 14, 1923, on her grandmother's farm near Albia, Iowa. She entered into rest on June 16, 2011, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. Her father was a traveling salesman and required the family to move a lot in her childhood. Lorraine made 28 school changes before graduating from high school in Peoria, Ill. She attended business school in Peoria and met Ralph Crandell. They were married on Nov. 1, 1941. McCoy was born to Ethel and Haskell Davenport, Aug. 14, 1923, on her grandmother's farm near Albia, Iowa. She entered into rest on June 16, 2011, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. Her father was a traveling salesman and required the family to move a lot in her childhood. Lorraine made 28 school changes before graduating from high school in Peoria, Ill. She attended business school in Peoria and met Ralph Crandell. They were married on Nov. 1, 1941. Their son, Paul, was born Jan. 1, 1944. Ralph was killed in Germany on March 16, 1945. He was with Patton's 3rd Army. Lorraine went to work at John Deere in 1947 and met William "Bill" McCoy. They were married May 11, 1950. They had two sons, Stephen and Robert. Bill was transferred with Deere to Germany in 1964, where they lived for four years while Bill supervised manufacturing in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. The McCoys returned to the U.S. in 1968 and Bill held positions in Des Moines, Horicon, Wis., and Waterloo. After Bill's retirement, he and Lorraine returned to the Ottumwa area in 1983 and bought an acreage south of town near Bloomfield. Bill passed away Jan. 15, 2004. Lorraine found it difficult to leave their home, but with family help, became a resident of Pennsylvania Place in Ottumwa in May of 2005. Penn Place became a wonderful home for her, and she often expressed her appreciation and love to so many there for their friendship and care. She truly felt that the residents and staff all became her extended family. Lorraine is survived by her sons, Paul Crandell of Sioux City, his wife Paula, their children, Preston and Paige DeGroot(husband, Dustin, great-grandchildren, Skyler, Adrianna); Steve McCoy of Omaha, his wife Patti, their children, Brian(wife, Nicole, great-grandchildren, Ava,Caleb) and Marissa Kreifels(husband Dustin, great-grandchild, Ruth); Rob McCoy of Mayville, Wis., and his wife Tina. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Merilee; and brother, Edwin Davenport. Lorraine used to say her best birthday was her 81st when her eldest granddaughter was married on Aug. 14, 2004, and 350 people at the wedding reception joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to Grandma McCoy. Lorraine attended First United Methodist Church and was very active there for many years. She enjoyed talking and writing about her family, doing crossword puzzles and attending local community and Pennsylvania Place events. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Emmanuel Tabelisma officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3-5 pm Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Ottumwa, Ia. or to Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation, Bethesda, Md.
