Lorraine Frieda Helen Heyer was born on November 21, 1926, in Faribault, MN, the daughter of John and Lillan (Kuntze) Heyer. As a child, Lorraine grew up on the campus of the School for the Deaf in Faribault, MN. She was fluent in American Sign Language. She attended school in Faribault and graduated high school in 1944. She worked in the telephone office before moving to Brookings. Lorraine was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Langner on March 14, 1948. They farmed north of Brookings where they raised their four children. After the children were grown she went to work as a baker at the Brookings Public Schools. She worked there until she turned 80. During those years she attended summer school and received her certificate in cooking and baking. She was known for her “Overnight” fresh buns and always having cookies, pies or a dessert to feed anyone who stopped. She continued this habit until entering assisted living. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Brookings. She served as a Sunday school teacher, wedding circle committee and 40 years on the funeral committee, serving lunches for funerals. She was a member of FLCW, the social time club and extension club. Lorraine is survived by her children, Carol (Gary) Dusharm, Ron (Linda) Langner, Sharon (Gordon) Bortnem, Kathy (Mike) McClemans all of Brookings, SD; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Katie) Dusharm of St. Paul, MN, Daryl Dusharm of Elkton, Chad (Tammy Reese) Bortnem of Brookings, SD, Shawn (Christa) Bortnem of Brookings, SD, Mike (Vicki) Langner of San Jose, CA, Darci (Rick) Granum of Sommerset, SD, Liz McClemans of Brookings, SD, Robb (Cassie ) McClemans of Yankton, SD and Laura (Oto) Oseniek of Brookings, SD; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Aune of Chisago, MN; two sisters-in-law, Lois Heyer of Albany, NY and Ruth Olson of Volga, SD and special friends, Shirley Rykhus of Brookings, SD and Jan Livingston of Brookings, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; one sister, Marion Fisher and one brother, Howard.
