Read More	************************************* Lorraine Margaret Keilstrup 66 years of Fremont passed away at her home. She was born February 23, 1945. She attended Fremont Public Schools and graduated Valedictorian from Fremont High School, then summa cum laude from Midland Lutheran College in 1967. She was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. She earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and taught there for several years, as well as in Fort Hays, Kansas. She gave up teaching to pursue a writing career in New York City where her plays were produced by the Hudson Guild and the New York Shakespeare Festival. She was a finalist for the Blackburn Prize in drama. She wrote scripts for CBS-Universal studios, notably for “The Equalizer” TV series. Margaret then returned to Fremont to care for her family. She lived the remainder of her life in her ancestral home. Her home had been built by her grandfather in what was then a cornfield east of town. The Keilstrup home is the oldest house in Fremont continuously occupied by the original family. While caring for her family she wrote many novels, poems and short stories. Many of her novels were published in America by Bantam Doubleday Dell, Morrow/Avon and Random House, in the UK by Macmillan as well as being translated for distribution in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic and Japan. She was a finalist for the Edgar, Agatha, Anthony Awards and the Golden Dagger in the UK. Margaret was an accomplished musician and artist. She designed needlework, quilting and Danish paper cutting. Many of her creations were published in various magazines. She was also an avid gardener, raising vegetables and fruit for home preservation. Her flower garden included her grandmother’s roses, native Prairie grasses and flowers and poppies first planted from seeds brought from Flanders Field after World War I. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Naomi Keilstrup and her sister Kathryn Anne Keilstrup. She is survived by 12 cousins. Memorial Service will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday Jan. 24, 2012 at St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont. There is no visitation. Interment will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont at a later date. (mosermemorialchapel.com/obituary)
