Description	:	Lorraine Marie (Peters) Plooster was born on December 31, 1925 to Nick and Margaret (Backes) Peters on a farm near White Lake, SD. She attended school through the eighth grade in Aurora County and two years of high school at Torrey Lake Country School in Brule County, SD. Weather permitting, she rode her horse to school daily. Read More	Lorraine Marie (Peters) Plooster was born on December 31, 1925 to Nick and Margaret (Backes) Peters on a farm near White Lake, SD. She attended school through the eighth grade in Aurora County and two years of high school at Torrey Lake Country School in Brule County, SD. Weather permitting, she rode her horse to school daily. On October 7, 1943 Lorraine was united in marriage to Julius Henry Plooster. To this union four children were born: an infant daughter that died at birth, a daughter, Sandra and two sons, Dennis and Nick. Julius left for the Army on October 13, 1943, after he finished basic training, they lived in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, then Camp Carson, Colorado until he was sent overseas. Lorraine returned to Mitchell, SD where she was employed at Mitchell Produce until J.P. was discharged in 1946 and they began farming near Platte, SD. In 1950 Julius was called back to Korea, so Lorraine moved to Platte with their two children to be near family. When he returned after being discharged from the Army again in 1951, J.P. went back to farming and then worked on the H.T. Ringling feedlot for 15 years while Lorraine worked at several places in Platte before retiring after 25 years with the Platte Hatchery. Lorraine enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, dancing, playing cards, as well as entertaining friends and family. She taught Sunday School for several years at the First Reformed Church. They lived in the Platte area most of their lives until moving to Pukwana, SD in 1998. They were together until Julius’ passing on May 23, 2007. Lorraine loved to spend time with her grandkids and great grandkids. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Plooster; an infant daughter; a daughter, Sandra Nelson; a grandson, Chad Plooster; her parents, Nick and Margaret Peters; two half brothers: John Peters and Matt Peters; and a half sister, Mary Blair.
