Dwayne was born July 31, 1935 to Lothan Irwin and Martha Louise (Palmer) Skelton in Norwood, Colorado. Dwayne married Lola Cassandra 'Cassie' Cole on Nov. 5, 1955. To this union their children were Barney Dean of New Cuyama, California, Bonnie Deenee Wyman of Norwood, Colorado, Susan Louise of Placerville, Colorado, Darrell Lothan of Cholame, California, and adopted child, Allan Blaine of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters, Phyllis Snyder of Norwood and Janet Gardner of Delta, Colorado. Dwayne divorced Cassie in 1992 and married Ruth Ellen (Hamilton) (Gray) on Dec. 21, 1996. Dwayne farmed with his dad after attending one year of college at Fort Lewis in Hesperus, Colorado. He was a heavy construction contractor for many years in the Norwood area, but his main love was cowboying. He loved to help his sister's family, Phyllis and (Mex and sons) cowboy, branding, and ranching, as long as he was on a horse. He was a member of the Norwood Roping Club and the USTRC. Dwayne and Ruth traveled a good deal of the Western United States for ten years of team roping and making friends. Additional surviving family members include two stepchildren, Joni Sue (Gray) Broughton of Marion, Iowa; and Kelly Robert Gray of Phoenix, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Dwayne was preceded in death by one sister, Billie and both parents. A Funeral Service in loving memory of Lothan Dwayne Skelton will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norwood Southern Baptist Church on Spruce St. in Norwood. Burial will follow the service at Norwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Mesa Oncology Solarium at Delta County Memorial Foundation, Attn. Kathy Sramek , 1501 East Third St., Delta, Co. 81416. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
