Van De Water Lottie's husband George farmed, hunted, trapped and did odd jobs to keep the family going. While pruning an apple tree, he slipped and became impaled. It was a horrible accident that injured his manhood. It was also at this time, that he found he had an aggressive cancer. George ended his life Jan. 23, 1918, on his own terms. His youngest child was 7 years old. Although I don't know the exact date Lottie married her second husband Hanford Bates, I did find them in the 1930 Census living in Ridgefield, CT with her mother, Letitia Fowler. Lottie died a month after her 90th birthday following a wonderful family reunion party. Some of the family photos I posted are from her 85th reunion party. Lottie lived a long life but was deaf from about 85 on. Bertha, my grandma, had the same affliction. My dad Charles was very hard of hearing, as well, in his later years.
