SANDY RIDGE - Lottie Ethel Joyce Martin, 92, of Amostown Road died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Center. A lifelong resident of Stokes County, Mrs. Martin was born May 14, 1912, to Marvin and Mattie Amos Joyce. She was a housewife, homemaker and loving devoted mother who enjoyed quilting, growing flowers and collecting angels, thimbles and salt-and-pepper shakers. She will be remembered as a good neighbor and a gentle and kind lady. She was the oldest living member of Sandy Ridge Christian Church and the oldest member of Sandy Ridge Senior Citizens Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Martin; a son, Odell Martin; a daughter, Mozelle Amos; seven brothers, Clarence, Posie, Paul, Leonard, Jimmy, Caleb and Clyde Joyce; and a sister, Elva Tudor. Survivors include her sons, Russell (Ann) Martin of Madison and Harvey and Glenn Martin, both of Sandy Ridge; her daughters, Mattie Ruth (Alan) Neal of Stokesdale, Barbara (J.D.) Williams of Madison, Shelby (Daniel) Williams and Pat Carter, both of Sandy Ridge, Marie (Mike) Knight and Judy (Gary) Shelton, both of Stoneville, and Dot (Bobby) Carter of Riceboro, Ga.; her brothers, Bill (Irene) Joyce and Marion "Sambo" (Jeanette) Joyce, both of Ridgeway, Va.; a sister, Nolie Joyce of Madison; a son-in-law, Sam Amos of Sandy Ridge; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends Ada Cregger, Dwight Prillaman and Shirley Clifton. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roy Little and Minister James Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Amos Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, July 10, at the funeral home and other times at the home of Judy Shelton, 2828 Anglin Mill Road, Stoneville, and immediately following the funeral at Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church Fellowship Hall. The family would like to thank every staff member at Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital, especially the second floor nurses and activities directors Carol Tilley and Debbie Adkins for the attention and care given to Mrs. Martin. Every visit made, every card mailed, every prayer prayed was a blessing to her and her family.
