Mrs. Showalter was born September 27, 1929 in Frederick, Maryland, and was the daughter of the late William L. Delaughter and Bessie Houck Delaughter. She had worked as a bookkeeper and salesperson at a bookstore and gift shop in Frederick, MD. She was a member of the Timberville Church of the Brethren, Pathfinders Sunday School class, and served as a deacon for many years. Mrs. Showalter was born September 27, 1929 in Frederick, Maryland, and was the daughter of the late William L. Delaughter and Bessie Houck Delaughter. She had worked as a bookkeeper and salesperson at a bookstore and gift shop in Frederick, MD. She was a member of the Timberville Church of the Brethren, Pathfinders Sunday School class, and served as a deacon for many years. In 1948 she married Richard Lee Masser, who preceded her in death in March 1991. On December 21, 2002 she married Melvin E. Showalter, who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Esther Martz and husband Harold, Sr., of Frederick, MD; two step-children, Marilyn Golladay of New Market, and Dale Showalter of Broadway; three step-grandchildren, Heather Golladay, Margaret Showalter, and Anna Showalter; three step-great-grandchildren, Hu and Cyrus Cheshire, and Nathanael Foster; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lee Masser; two brothers, William L. Delaughter, and Richard T. Delaughter; and a sister, Katherine Fisher. Pastor Bernie Fuska will conduct a memorial service Saturday August 26, 2017 at 11 AM at Timberville Church of the Brethren. The body was cremated and burial will be private at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deacon’s Assistance Fund at Timberville Church of the Brethren, 145 Church Street, Timberville, VA 22853.
