Her parents lived in Iron, Hills, IA, but Lottie was born in her grandparents' log home at Crabtown, IA. She died Thursday, October 21, 1999, at Prairie Vista Care Center in Holyoke. Her parents lived in Iron, Hills, IA, but Lottie was born in her grandparents' log home at Crabtown, IA. She died Thursday, October 21, 1999, at Prairie Vista Care Center in Holyoke. She was 101 years of age. Lottie was the eldest of 11 children. She had eight brothers and two sisters..... Lottie May Masscey was united in marriage to Orman Kyle Alden on November 15, 1916. To this union were born two children, Charlene and Jerald. Lottie and her husband lived in Jackson County, IA, where they had a farm. Mrs. Alden helped her husband in his work as Assessor of the Jackson County township and she was secretary of the local school board until the school was closed. She enjoyed flower gardening and helping to care for the animals on the farm. Lottie was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and her family. She also enjoyed hanging wall paper in her own home and for friends as well. Mrs. Alden was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Onslow, IA. .....Her husband died in July of 1970 and she lived in Maquoketa, IA following his death until her move to Holyoke in 1981. At 83 years of age she made the decision to move to Colorado in order to be closer to her daughter. Lottie entered Prairie Vista Care Center in March of 1993..... .....She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, in July of 1977; seven brothers; and one sister. Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Kropp of Holyoke; a sister, Dorothy Bailey of Dubuque, IA; a brother, Edgar Masscey of Dubuque, IA; nine grandchildren, Leilani Sperber, Rochelle Smith, John, Joe and Charles Alden, Jamie Soper, Julie Meineke, Cheryl Recker and Junella Lange; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Lottie May Masscey Alden were held Saturday, October 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Pastor Darrell Dennis officiating and Monday, October 25, at the Carson and Son Funeral Chapel in Maquoketa, IA with Pastor Ruth Ann Scott officiating. Interment was made at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Maquoketa, IA.....
