Mrs. Pruitt was a lifelong resident of Mount Pleasant community, a daughter of Mrs. Rachel Howard Pruitt and the late J.C. Pruitt. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. PRUITT TRAVELERS REST, June 2 - Mrs. Lou Emma Howard Pruitt, 55, widow of Rufus Pruitt, died Sunday at 10 p.m. while visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Hattie Howard, near Wildwood Park. Mrs. Pruitt was a lifelong resident of Mount Pleasant community, a daughter of Mrs. Rachel Howard Pruitt and the late J.C. Pruitt. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Mrs. Pruitt was twice married. Her first marriage was to Rufus Howard who died 19 years ago. From this marriage the following survive: three daughters, Mrs. Dorrance Gosnell and Mrs. Viola Howard, both of Travelers Rest, Rt. 3 and Mrs. Ruby Pollard, Greer, Rt. 3; four sons, John M., Carl Grady and Dewey Howard, all of Travelers Rest, Rt. 3, and Pvt. Rufus Howard, U.A. Army, Camp Gordon, Ga. Her second marriage was to Rufus Pruitt, who died 8 years ago. From this marriage two sons survive, Pralo and Cecil Pruitt, both of Travelers Rest, Rt. 3. Also surviving are four step-sons, the Rev. Mayfield Pruitt, Greenville; the Rev. Ansel Pruitt, Wellford; Alvin, Greer; Clyde, Greenwood; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ollie Mae Victory, Belton; her Mother, Mrs. Rachel Howard, Travelers Rest, Rt. 3; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Emory and Mrs. Hattie Howard, both of Saluda, N.C., Rt. 1; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Red Stegall and the Rev. Arthur Kerkendall. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetary. The following nephews will meet at the home at 1:30 p.m. to serve as pallbearers; Lawrence, Leonard, Junior, and Alvin Pruitt, Winfred Gosnell, and Claudie Burrell. The body is at the home, Rt. 3, Travelers Rest.
