Description	:	Oneda Loudene was born to Louis Thatcher and Anna Yocum Thatcher on a farm "east of Cambria, [Iowa] and two miles north" where her father Louis had built the house, barn and all of the buildings, according to her own report. She spent all of her growing-up years in northern Wayne County in the vibrant context of farm life where she was a valuable and contributing member of the Thatcher family's agricultural endeavors. She spent all of her growing-up years in northern Wayne County in the vibrant context of farm life where she was a valuable and contributing member of the Thatcher family's agricultural endeavors. She lived in Iowa nearly all of her life. Although she effectively worked in many different jobs and was never long without a meaningful job, she spent most of her adult years in education with loving attention to those with special needs. On June 1, 1937 she married Ivan Frederick Empey and they were the parents of two sons, Garry Dean and Terry Lynn. She also proudly claimed a foster daughter, Laura Bates. She leaves 9 grandchildren (including Laura's two) and 16 great grandchildren who will miss the loving presence of a matriarch. She left this life on Christmas Eve, 2015. A private, family, graveside memorial was conducted on May 14, 2016, at 10:30 AM on the Empey Family plot at the Corydon, Iowa, cemetery not far also from the graves of her parents and many other relatives. At her request son, Garry, read a poem that she had supplied [see following] and the family of her cousin, Pauline Barker Vincent, led prayers, scripture readings and remembrances. The cremains are interred beneath a memorial stone bearing her name and the image of a school bell, reminding all of her career in education and her large collection of bells, which had been distributed to family members at her death. On the exceptionally cold May day of the memorial, with a raw north wind, the family then reconvened at a local restaurant for an extended time of remembrances, fellowship and food. Miss Me But Let Me Go - When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set on me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little--but not too long, and not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, miss me--but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.
