McKellips' Body Brought to Old Home for Burial. The body of Mrs. L. J. McKellips, who died in Caldwell, Idaho, December 20, was brought to David City last Thursday and burial was in the family lot in Pleasant Lawn cemetery, not far from the old McKellips homestead, six miles west of David City. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Christian church in David City. The funeral sermon was given by Rev. E. C. Davis, pastor of the Christian church. In it he paid especial tribute to Mrs. McKellips' Christian character and the uplifting influence of her life upon her children, and those shoe was associated with. The singers were Misses Anna Riler and Florence Johnson and Messrs. Orville Johnson and Charles Streeter. Miss Phoebe Walden was accompanist. The selections sung were "It Is Well With My Soul, "No Night There" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Six grandsons of Mrs. McKellips were pallbearers. They were Ed and Frank Allen and Arthur, Moro, Guy and Harold From. Mrs. McKellips' maiden name was Louisa Jane Carroll. She was born on Lamb's Run in Harrison county, Virginia, January 17, 1834. At time of her death she was 81 years, 11 months and 3 days old. At the age of three she moved with her parents to Wilmington county, Ohio, where they lived until she was 18, then moving to Hancock county, Ill. She was married to Philander McKellips, of Hamilton, Ill., in the year 1850. After 15 years residence in Illinois, they moved to Butler county, where they homesteaded land six miles west of David City. They arrived here in the spring of 1871. Living there for 22 years, until March, 1893, they moved to Sedgwick county, Kansas. Mr. McKellips departed this life October 21, 1894. In 1900 Mrs. McKellips moved back to David City and 11 years later broke up her home and went to live with her daughter, Mrs. David From. In August, 1914, she went to California to spend a year with her son and daughter, remaining there until last September when she went to Caldwell, Idaho, to spend the winter in the home of another daughter, Mrs. Anna Welch. It was here that her death occurred. Several weeks ago she was taken ill with la grippe which developed into pneumonia and resulted in her death. Her two daughters, Mrs. David From and Mrs. S. W. Allen, went from David City when their mother's condition became critical and remained there until her death. A son of Mrs. McKellips, E. D. McKellips, of Petaluma, Calif., was with his mother during the last days of her illness. Mrs. McKellips was the mother of eight children, six daughters and two sons. Three children, Dora, Arthur and Mary, are dead. Those living are Mrs. S. W. Allen, Mrs. David From, Mrs. Anna Welch, Mrs. [sic] E. W. McKellips, and Mrs. Harriet Nugent. Mrs. Nugent lives in California. Mrs. McKellips is survived also by 23 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Alvin Cole of Scottsbluff, and a brother, Charles Carroll of Denver, Colo. Mrs. McKellips was the great niece of Charles Carroll, of Carrollton, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. On her mother's side she traced her ancestry back to William Berkeley, governor of Virginia, in 1642. At the age of 14 years, Mrs. McKellips united with the Christian church and during her entire life was especially interested in church work. She and Mr. McKelliips are numbered among the organizers of the Summit Christian church and were instrumental in the success of its growth. Those coming from elsewhere to attend the funeral were, Mrs. Alvin Cole, of Scottsbluff, Mrs. L. N. Stiles of Lincoln, a niece of Mrs. McKellips; Rev. and Mrs. B. L.
