Description	:	UNDERWOOD — Louis "Bud" Stengel, 90, Underwood, passed away Jan. 11, 2011, at Prairieview Nursing Home, Underwood. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Underwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Interment will be held at Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood, and continues Monday, one hour prior to time of service at the church. Louis "Bud" was born March 6, 1920, near Underwood, to Amil and Arnetta (Buffington) Stengel. He was raised on his parents' farm west of Underwood and attended rural school. He married Elnora Hoff on Aug. 18, 1942, in Glendive, Mont. Bud entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He and Elnora made their home on a farm six miles northeast of Underwood, where they farmed and raised dairy cattle for many years. Together, they raised four children and also cared for many foster children. Bud was a very kind and gentle man who loved his family and his little black dog, "Spike." He is remembered for his ability to build or fix nearly anything. He was a member of the VFW Post 6940 in Underwood and a member of the Underwood United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elnora Stengel, Underwood; three daughters, Sharleen (Ted) Thorson, Los Altos, Calif., Zona (Darrell) O'Shea, Turtle Lake, and Jackie (James) Coutts, Underwood; one son, Louis W. (Dorothy) Stengel Jr., Underwood; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two foster children, Sherrylee (Jeff) Johnson, Pierre, S.D., and George Morsette, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by five sisters; three brothers; one daughter-in-law, Linda Stengel; and one son-in-law, Scott Krumwiede.
