The young man was taken ill a little more than a week previously and came to town from the farm 5 miles northwest. A physician was called who pronounced his trouble to be appendicitis and on Sunday afternoon an operation was preformed. He seemed to be getting along nicely and hopes were high that he would recover, but on Friday morning he grew rapidly worse and death came to relieve his of his pain on Sunday. Lewis Emil Waldo was born on Sept 23, 1883 on the home farm were he lived until the time of his death, being then 22 years, 9 months, and 23 days of age. He was just entering on a bright and promising manhood, yet when he knew that death was near he never faltered but told his loved ones again and again that he was ready to go. Although young, Louis had gained a clear conception of the plan of salvation and he had gained an experience that to him was definite and satisfactory. When he knew he must go he kissed the members of the family that had gathered about his bed and told them to trust the good Lord and meet him on the other side. He called for a Bible to read and in spite of his weakness read and commented on a few verses. Later he asked to see a clergyman and Rev. Lundell of the Swedish Lutheran church, was called and administered the sacrament. After that he said; "It is not hard to die for I know just where I am going." He made a request that the choirs of the Alta churches unite in singing at his funeral and that one of the numbers be his favorite hymn, "There is a land that is fairer than Day." Shortly after this request he passed away. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Wetzler of Pomeroy preaching the sermon in German and English. Many were present from town and country, while those from abroad were Mrs. M. Hines and Mrs. Waldo and son of Pomeroy; Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Bischel of Klemme; Fred Dericks and family, M. Hines and family, Mr. and Mrs. H. Kruse, Mrs. K. Rutherford, Mrs. F. Schroeder, Miss Lena Ruggs, Fred Miller and Rev. Albrecht, all of Aurelia.
