Description	:	Frightfully injured, Louis Altherr, age 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Altherr, northeast of Tipton, was rushed to the St. Vincent hospital at Indianapolis Thursday afternoon, for an emergency operation in a last effort to save his life. The boy's head was crushed under a farm tractor wheel at 9:00 o'clock in the morning. Little hope was held for his recovery. The Young Furniture Co. ambulance took the grief-stricken parents to the hospital where a surgeion was awaiting to lift the crushed skull from the brain. Andy Altherr was putting up hay and his brother, John, east of Tipton was assisting. A tractor was being operated to pull the hay loader and the boy, Louis, was riding on the fender of the tractor which was being operated by his uncle. John. The little fallow slid off the fender to the ground and the big wheel struck him on the right side of the bead. Dr. H. E. Grishaw was secured shortly after the accident but it was evident to the physician that an operation offered the only hope for the little fellow's life. Nothing could be' done as the right side of the head was mashed in. As a last resort it was decided to operate. The parents of the injured boy and his uncle, on the tractor at the time of the accident, are suffering greatly from the shock of the tragedy. Louis is one of four small children in the Altherr family.
