Description	:	Born in Aurora MO, Lawrence County, son of the late Rev. L.B. McCaslin, graduated Mansfield Missouri High School 1943 and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, participated in the Normandy invasion and served in the Underwater Demolition Team, a forerunner of the Navy Seals. Shannon, he went on to the Electronics Material School in Great Lakes, IL. In 1949, he attended submarine school in New London, CT and was called to duty for the Korean War. He was stationed in Honolulu, HI aboard the submarine “Tiru” and later transferred to the LSD 715 serving in the Near East. He later transferred to Mare Island in Valejo, CA and commissioned the USS Sandoval, and the pre-commission of the USS Frontier which he took to the Far East. He transferred back to Treasure Island for separation from the Navy. He and his family moved to San Diego, CA where he attended San Diego College. He was employed by Aeronautical Radio, Inc. (ARINC) and moved to Norfolk, VA as a manager. There he enrolled in Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He transferred to the main office of ARINC in Washington D.C. and then travelled to Palo Alto, there attending San Jose State College. He managed the western division of ARINC while living in Santa Ana, CA. Retiring in 1981 as Assistant Corporate Secretary and Director of Administration and Personnel Services. He was later employed by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in the Engineering Division from which he retired in 1988. The organizations he was a member of include: Boy Scouts of America; Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of America; the Defense Preparedness Association; American Management Association. Fraternal Organizations: Masonic Lodge H87, Norfolk, VA; Past member of Loyal Order of Moose, Waukegan, IL; Elks of Broadneck, Arnold, MD; Fraternal Order of UDT Service Organizations: American Legion; Life member Disabled American Veterans; Member and Past President of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch #24. He was very active in many Scottish Organization as a Life Member and Past President of the St. Andrews Society of Baltimore, MD; Life Member and Past President of Clan Buchanan Society International; Life Member of the Buchanan Society of Scotland; a founding member of the Robert Burns Society of Annapolis, MD, serving a number years as Secretary and Treasurer; a Family Member of Scottish Heritage of America. Mr. McCaslin was also listed in Who’s Who in the West for several years. A member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church of Severna Park, MD, he leaves his wife, to whom he was married for 68 years; a daughter and a son of Arnold, MD. He also leaves three grandchildren and a great-grandson. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:00am at Cook Cemetery in Lake City, SC.
