The only other information was that a letter would follow. Louis was 1 of 3 brothers in the military service. The others are Sgt. Edward Pannkuk who enlisted Nov. 23, 1939, the same time as Louis, and Henry, seaman 1st class, who enlisted in February this year and is now on active duty. While in the service Louis learned the plumber's and auto mechanic's trades. MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE, MASON CITY, IOWA, MARCH 24, 1948, PAGE THIRTEEN FINAL RITES FOR KANAWHA WAR VETERAN KANAWHA--Funeral services for Pfc. Louis B. Pannkuk were held Monday in the Hanson funeral home and in the Kanawha Lutheran church with the Rev. Norris Wogen officiating. Burial was made in the local cemetery. Pfc. Pannkuk was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Pannkuk, of Kanawha. He was born Sept. 8, 1915, and was killed in an automobile accident in Australia Sept. 8, 1943. The body was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ipswich, Australia. His body was the 2nd Kanawha war victim to be brought back for burial. It arrived under military escort from Kansas City. Surviving are his parents, 2 sisters, Mrs. Zelda Sabin of Kanawha, and Mrs. Helena Boleman of Belmond; and 2 brothers, Henry Pannkuk of San Pedro, Cal., and Edward Pannkuk of the state of Washington, and a grandmother, Mrs. Stewart of Burt. It was a military funeral with the American Legion and the V.F.W. having charge.
