Louie was born on the family farm near Elsie on Sept. 1, 1928, to William Harlin and Chlora Coppersmith (Tatum). He attended Perkins County High School and graduated with the class of 1947. He spent his career farming northeast of Elsie. Aside from his devotion to his family and friends, Louie had several well-known passions. Read More	Louis Coppersmith, 85, of Elsie, passed away Jan. 10, 2014, with his family by side. Louie was born on the family farm near Elsie on Sept. 1, 1928, to William Harlin and Chlora Coppersmith (Tatum). He attended Perkins County High School and graduated with the class of 1947. He spent his career farming northeast of Elsie. Aside from his devotion to his family and friends, Louie had several well-known passions. He loved music, playing both piano and clarinet, and he shared his gift of music throughout the area and at every opportunity. He spent his life as a private pilot and was a member of the International Flying Farmers organization. He enjoyed square dancing, was well-known for reciting cowboy poetry from memory and never turned down a bowl of vanilla ice cream. He and Virginia loved to travel to visit family and friends and attended many Elderhostels from coast to coast. Louie is survived by Virginia Coppersmith, to whom he was happily married for more than 60 years; four children, Gene (Sherry) Coppersmith, of Lincoln, Eldon Coppersmith, of Lakewood, Colo., Barb (Mark) Stappenbeck, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Larry (Kristine) Coppersmith, of Wallace; eight grandchildren; two great- granddaughters; and his siblings, Lena Newberry, of Nampa, Idaho, Lynn Coppersmith, of Seattle, Wash., and Lillian Hanson, of Elsie. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. (MST), Monday, Jan. 13, at Mother of Sorrows Church in Grant with Rev. Mark Pfeiffer officiating. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. (MST), today, at the Elsie Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Elsie Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Elsie American Legion Post. Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
