Contributor: art46j (49748673) Dubuque Telegraph Herald Tuesday 09 Nov 1954 Lewis Zahrndt, 83, Oldest Iowa JP, Dies; Rites Set Edgewood, Ia. -- Lewis Zahrndt, 83, one of Iowa's oldest justices of the peace, died at his home here Monday night. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rhines Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery. Mrs. Zahrndt was born Dec. 13, 1870, near Mederville, a son of Louis and Augusta Meyer Zahrndt. One of the oldest officials in Iowa, he was reelected Nov. 2. At a convention of justices of the peace several years ago in Cedar Rapids, he was given a fountain pen in recognition of the fact that he was the oldest justice in Iowa at that time. He was a member and officer of Avalon Lodge, AF&AM. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Zella) Petesr of Edgewood, with whom he made his home, and a sister Miss Ida Zahrndt of St. Olaf, Ia.
