Grones occurred Monday afternoon at the Palmer House, after about a week’s illness of pneumonia at the age of thirty-four years and nine months. The deceased was a member of Company B, 7th O. V. I., and his death was the first to occur in that organization. He was with the regiment at Camp Alger and Camp Meade, and was mustered out about the first of this year. Grones Dies of Pneumonia on Monday The death of Lewis E. Grones occurred Monday afternoon at the Palmer House, after about a week’s illness of pneumonia at the age of thirty-four years and nine months. The deceased was a member of Company B, 7th O. V. I., and his death was the first to occur in that organization. He was with the regiment at Camp Alger and Camp Meade, and was mustered out about the first of this year. He was kind-hearted, accommodating and generous to a fault, and every member of the company was his friend. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the residence of his brother, Mr. F. S. Grones on Morris avenue, conducted by Rev. Cyrus Rose. The remains were interred in the new cemetery in the family lot. The members of his company acted as a military escort, and the bugler of the company, Bernard Thompson, blew taps at the grave – taps which are so significant in army life, and which are blown when the lights go out in a tented city and when a soul goes out forever. The casket was adorned with beautiful floral designs, a wreath, a pillow, and an anchor of cut roses, while a handsome floral tribute was presented by Mrs. Mary Limle of Chillicothe.
