Arrangements are by Brockhaus Funeral Home at Creighton, NE. Louis Edward Petersen was born November 3, 1919 at home in Brunswick, Nebraska. He passed away December 8, 2010 at the Norfolk Veterans Home. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1938. Louis worked with his dad, Carl, at Petersens Garage as a mechanic from 1930 to 1967. He married Arvilla Goetzinger in 1940 and raised a family of six boys that included Arvillas brother, Harold, that came to live with them at age 11. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII. Louis participated in the organization and direction of the Plainview Klown Band from 1949-2008. He was proud to serve as a volunteer fireman for most of his life that included assistant fire chief for fourteen years, fire chief for six years, and deputy state fire marshal. He was especially proud to organize the first Junior Fire Patrol Program in 1960. The 1st Community Services Award was presented to him by the Plainview Jaycees in 1967. In 1968 Louis received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award for unselfish and neighborly deeds. He was a 65 year member and served as Commander, after WWII, of the American Legion Post 148 and VFW Post 5330. From 1977-1983 Louis worked at AMPI until he retired. He enjoyed tinkering in his home shop, hunting and fishing. He never really retired, 1983-1988, he proceeded working at the Plainview Country Club. In 1988 he married Shirley Jenkins and they spent the remainder of his life traveling, dancing, golfing and playing cribbage. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; children, Harold, Dave, Dan, Joe, Corrine, Denise, Lana, and Skip; daughter-in-laws; son- in-laws; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, friends and extended family. Louis was preceded in death by Arvilla; their infant daughter, Susan; two sons, Loren and Marvin; his parents, two infant siblings, two brothers, and four sisters.
