It was in Grafton where they ran a grocery store... Read More	ISSLER, LOUIS F.—Louis F. Issler was born on April 18, 1919, on a farm in Dicky county, near Fullerton, N.D., to Gotlieb F. and Frieda E. Ulmer Issler. He had an older brother and later on, a little sister, whom he had to babysit and complained about for years. Lou passed away September 19, 1993, at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 1 day at the Fillmore county Hospital, Geneva. In 1923 his famiy moved to Sutton, and in 1926, they moved to Grafton. It was in Grafton where they ran a grocery store and Lou grew to manhood. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1937 and then went to Chicago where his Uncle Fred, where he was an auto mechanic. On July 2, 1941, he was married to Beulah Schoen of Gladstone at Riverdale. A short time after his marriage, he was drafted and served his country in World War II in Germany. Following the war, he returned to Grafton, where he operated a grocery store for a short time. He also drove the Capitol Candy truck out of Lincoln and called on towns along Highway No. 6. In the 1950’s he became associated with the Laird Motor Company in Geneva. It was around this time the arrival of two little boys, Randy and Ricky happened. Also during this time, he and Howard Melton joined hands and bought the Ford Agency from Laird Motors and formed their own company of Melton-Issler Motors. In 1984 Beulah passed away and in 1985, he married Mary Schellpeper. Lou was now retired and he and Mary took several trips together. They also greatly enjoyed playing golf, cards and fishing and there was always the thrill of the Nebraska football games in Lincoln. Lou was a member of the Geneva City Council for 24 years and gave his best to his town in deciding vital city issues. He was fondly called “Uncle Lou” by family and his many friends. He was also an active volunteer fireman for years and greatly enjoyed the meetings with “a good bunch of guys” as he fondly called them. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his craft work and made many butterflies for his friends’ refrigerators and many rocking horses for the children of his friends and relatives. He greatly enjoyed many visits from his friends and family. Behind his gruff exterior was a gentle man, who always had a special concern for those who were less fortunate and needed a helping hand. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and by his first wife, Beulah. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Rick and Randy (Jean); sister, Lorene L. Hienhart; a step-daughter, Susie (James) Bombard; four step-granddaughters; two step-great-granddaughters and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, from the Prince of Peace Lutheran church in Geneva with Rev. Lyle Sass officiating. Mrs. Lyle Sass accompanied Kelly Eich who sang “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden.” Casket bearers were James Brumbaugh, Vaughn Fulton, Melvin Krause, Claiton Lauber, Frank McPeck and Woody Swails. Honorary bearers were Charles Ashby, Delwyn Anderson, Donald Hofferber, Wendell Lauber, Howard Melton, Tom O’Brien and Roger Trumper. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
