Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Memorials may be made to the family in his memory. Burial will be in the Leando Cemetery, Douds, Iowa. Louis Herman Bell was born January 4, 1942, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the son of Herman and Eleanora (Schipper) Bell. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1960 and attended Moody Bible College. He married Ruby Gail Gerels on August 31, 1963 and were the parents of three daughters, Cindy, Sally and Susan. Louis and Ruby were later divorced. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a surgical aid nurse at Fort Knox, Kentucky, during the Vietnam War. He married Dorothy Louise Plowman on December 7, 1971, in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 22, 1998. He spent a few years as a dairy farmer, then became employed as a machine operator with the 3M Tape Company, until he retired. He was a member of Anamosa Four Square Church. He volunteered as a chaplain for Amenity Hospice. He enjoyed Ford Tractors, gardening, crossword puzzles, garage sales and collecting Rock Island Railroad memorabilia. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family. Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Ploog, Sally Schmidt and Susan (Kristopher) Heilmann; four step-daughters, Niki (Chad) Kanneberg of Anamosa, Lori (Charles) Stocker and Tammy (Roger) Adkins, both of Bettendorf and April (Randy) Mason of Davenport; one step-son, Robert Tisor of Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren, Eric, Lyndsey, Amy, Alisha, Brandon, Erin, Chloe, Sari, Aaron, Megan, Leah, Brad, Josh, Cody, Nick and Jessica; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Luella Mae Bell. Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services
