July 3, 1936 - Carroll Daily - L.H. Salinger, 53, prominent Carroll attorney, member of the law firm Salinger, Reynolds and Meyers, passed away at 5:30 o'clock last night at the hospital here. The body is at the Huffman funeral home, and will be taken to the home of his mother at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning. The pallbearers will be F.H. Cooney, Glenn N. Weeks, Ralph Crane, Ross Sifford, Carl V. Riley of Muscatine and W.H. Krebbs of Sioux City. Honorary pallbearers will be J.J. Meyers, C.E. Reynolds, Ralph Maclean, E.A. Robb, C.C. Helnier, W.C. Saul, W.R. Lee, W.L. Kline, A.N. Neu, G.A. Minnich, T.J. Drees, Robert S. Bruner, Edward S. White, jr., Douglas Rogers, P.H. Jones, Erwin H. Hansen, C.C. Browning and M.M. Cooney, all members of the Carroll County Bar Association. Louis Howard Salinger, son of Lucy Boylan Salinger and the late Judge B.I. Salinger, was born Aug. 31, 1882 at Manning, where he lived and attended school until the age of 15. In November 1897, he came to Carroll with his parents and attended the public schools. He later was a student at the Iowa State college in Ames and afterwards at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He was graduated from the law college of the University of Iowa in 1906 and since that time had practiced law in Carroll. He was a member of the Iowa State Bar and American Bar associations. Lou, as he was familiarly known, was a great student of the law, to which he devoted his entire life. He lived it and thought it and was actively engaged in his practice for 30 years. He had a briliant carrer as a trial lawyer and had practiced in the federal, circuit, and supreme court of the United States. He was an indefatigable worker and despite ill health continued to handle cases. He was in court the day before going to the hospital. He was also an inveterate reader and his few recreation hours were devoted to reading. Mr. Salinger was united in marriage to Leo Crow at Mapleton Aug 31, 1909. Surviving relatives are his widow, his mother, Mrs. B.I. Salinger, sr,; one sister, Mrs J.P. Minchen (Daisy); and a twin brother, B.I. Salinger, jr of Chicago. His father died July 1931. Mr Salinger was affiliated with the Knights of Pythias and the Odd Fellows. Among those from a distance who will attend the funeral are Mrs. E.L. Crow and Lloyd Crow of Mapleton, mother and brother of Mrs. Salinger, and B.I. Salinger, jr, of Chicago.
