Description	:	Louie Mitchell, 82 of Wood, SD, passed away Tuesday, September, 28, 2010, at his daughter's home in Winner, SD, surrounded by his wife and three daughters. Louie went to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 2, at 10:00 AM at the Wood Community Hall in Wood, SD. Louie Mitchell was born at the family home northeast of Wood, SD on June 19, 1928 to Elmo and Katherine (Krieger) Mitchell, Louie attended Country School for three years at which time the family moved into Wood. He attended Wood School through the seventh grade. Louie went to work at an early age due to the untimely death of his father. He worked for Wendell Dimond for eight years before moving to Idaho where he worked on a potato farm for one year before being called to duty with the United States Army in 1950. He served two years and received an Honorable Discharge from the Korean War. Upon return to Wood he went to work for Dale and Ivil Lookabill where he remained employed for 17 years. Louie married Emma Jackson Joseph on September 24, 1957. Louie then started work for Mellette County Highway Department for 21 years upon his retirement. Louie still continued to do farm work in the Wood area, until the last few years he worked with Wally and David Laudenslager. These years of farming brought him great enjoyment. Louie took care of his wife, Emma after her health had started to fail. Louie was blessed with three daughters and five step children. Louie was active in the American Legion of which he was life-time member (51 +years), he was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Church, a member of Wood Town Board and served as a foster parent for 19 years. Louie and his family spent the last 30 years mowing the Cemeteries for Memorial Day every year as Louie took great pride in the Military Service and felt this was a way to give back to his community. Louie Loved spending time with his family and he loved the great outdoors. He leaves to mourn, his wife Emma, daughters: Sharon (Harold) Koenig, Martin, SD; Donna (Toby) Brandis, White River, SD; and Anne (Wayne) Bolton, Winner, SD, stepsons: Albert Joseph, Jr., Mission, SD; Frank (Karen) Joseph, Aberdeen, SD; and Paul (Whitney) Joseph, Wood, SD. Grandchildren: Nicole Larvie, Erik (Edie) Twite, Michael (April) Bolton, Ashlee Twite, Kelli Bolton, Terry Lynn, Albert III, Eric, Gail, Willow, and Sonny, Lisa, Chanda, Barbara, Brandee, Jenilee (Ty), and Whitney Joseph, Jeremy & Jordan Joseph. Great Grandchildren: Justin and Juell Twite, Julie Jo Joseph and Kaden Rel. Brother-in-laws: Anton Lebeda, Nick (Pauline) Jackson and Willis Dickson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Katherine Mitchell; his sisters: Esther, Louise and Margaret; his brothers, John, Charles and William; step daughter Barbara and her husband Kerry Shelton and their two children Randall and Lori; stepson Roger Paul Joseph and great granddaughter Barbara Lee Joseph.
