They were the parents of William, Anna, Herman, Walter, Ida, Frank, Louis, Helen, and August. March 18, 1946 - Carroll Times - Louis Beckman, 75, who had lived in Carroll for several years, died about 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the residence at 109 North Main street. His death followed a stroke which he suffered Friday evening. He had been in failing health for some time. The body is resting at the Huffman Funeral Home until the time of the services. Rites are to be held Wednesday afternoon, short services at the funeral home at 1:30 to be followed by rites at St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the pastor, the Rev. Waldemar E. Hinck, officiating. Burial will be beside his wife in the Carroll cemetery. Mr. Beckman, a retired farmer, was born Feb. 20, 1871, in Pomoroy, Germany, a son of Ludwig and Hannah Beckman. Coming to the United States in 1883, he settled in Illinois. In 1891 he located in Audubon county. He was married Dec. 30, 1896, to Miss Bertha Meyer in Douglas township, Audubon county. Mr. and Mrs. Beckman established their home on a farm in Lincoln Township, Audubon county, when they lived until 1921. At that time they came to Carroll county and farmed in the vicinity of Carroll. They were living on a farm north of Carroll when Mrs. Beckman died April 24, 1926. After her death, Mr. Beckman lived in the homes of his different children for 12 years. He then came to Carroll county and had resided in nursing homes here since then. He had been at the Tryon Nursing home, on North Main street almost three months. Mr. Beckman was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran church here. Surviving are seven children and 19 grandchildren. His children are: William Beckman, Arlington, Minn.; Mrs. Ted Porsch (Anna), Yale, Ia.; Herman and Walter Beckman, Lake City; Mrs. William Frank (Ida), Lake View; Frank Beckman, Auburn; and August Beckman, Lake City. A son, Louis, died in infancy April 17, 1909, and a daughter, Helen, at the age of 4 in 1911. Mr. Beckman was the last of a family of five children. He was preceded in death by one brother, William, of Sibley, and three sisters: Mrs. Ricke Berg and Mrs. Minnie Raeble, Audubon and Mrs. Hannah Juergens, Manning.
