He had lived alone for many years. Mr. Shanda was one of 12 children born to Frank and Anna Fou Shanda. He was born in Tama county April 20, 1889. For many years he worked as a depot agent at Irving and after closing the depot he spent the remainder of his working time in painting and redecorating. He was a bird-lover and formerly raised fancy "birds. The deceased is survived by two brothers, John, Irving, and Charles, Cottage Grove, Ore., two sisters, Mrs. Emma Dolge, Tipton, and. Mrs. Agnes, Dielh, Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Peffers funeral home, Belle Plaine, Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Alvin Boettcher, pastor of the First Congregational church, Belle Plaine, officiating. Pallbearers were nephews: Joseph, Edward and Elmer Shanda, Lester and Cal Fullmer and Fred Kucera. Interment was at the Irving cemetery.
