Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. He was born on July 21, 1922, in Preston, son of Louis and Luella (Keeney) Eckelberg. Bud served in the Army during World War II, serving in Africa, Italy and Germany. He was a lifetime member of the O'Connor-Regenwether Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3633, Maquoketa. He was honored to attend the Honor Flight in September with his brother "Deck." He married Shirley R. Bickford on June 8, 1947, in Preston; she preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 2009. Bud farmed and was a mechanic for Dostal & Watters Implement in Maquoketa for 30 years. He also was a member of First Lutheran Church. Surviving are a son-in-law, Ron Hankemeier, of Maquoketa; three grandchildren, Jefferson, of Minneapolis, Joshua, of Champaign, Ill., and Amanda, of Maquoketa; three sisters, Marjorie Boell, of Hayfield, Minn., Vivian Roe, of Maquoketa, and Eloise (Harry) Rubel, of Zwingle; a brother, Eugene "Slim" (Barbara) Eckelberg, of Grand Mound; and nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dixie Hankemeier; a sister, Muriel Allan; and a brother, Donald "Deck" Eckelberg, on Jan. 6, 2012.
