Born June 24, 1944, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Meagher was the son of the late Charles William "Bert" Meagher and Mary Agnes (Stitcher) Meagher. He was a Specialist... Read More	Cumberland, MD – Louis William Meagher, 74, of Cumberland, MD, peacefully passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018, at his home. Born June 24, 1944, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Meagher was the son of the late Charles William "Bert" Meagher and Mary Agnes (Stitcher) Meagher. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Charlie and Carl Meagher. Lou, or Butch, as he was affectionately called by close family and friends, was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1962. Mr. Meagher was very proud to have served his country. He was a Specialist Four, electronic equipment repairman for the United States Army, serving in Korea during the Vietnam Era. Butch was retired from the Kelly Springfield Warehouse where he worked with both of his brothers. He was a member of the Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion. Lou is survived by his loving daughters: Michelle Stanley; and Deena Helmstetter and husband, Tom, both of Cumberland. He is also survived by his wife and good friend, Deb (Hayes) Meagher. Butch leaves behind four grandchildren: Jordon Stanley and wife, Megan, Olivia Stanley, Ethan Helmstetter and Noah Helmstetter. He also had two stepdaughters: Danielle Richards and husband, James; and Daphne Dolly. Lou had six step grandchildren as well: Tyler, Dustin, and Logan Richards, and Dalton, Dakota and Dylan Dolly. Lou is also survived by two sisters: Rita Grimm and husband, Francis; and Judith Meagher; and special sister-in-law: Carolyn Meagher. He had several nieces and nephews: Carl Meagher II, Denise Appel, Mark Grimm, Kimberly Weimer, Dawne Bush, Debbie Knisely, Lisa Fuller, and Stephanie Aman. Lou was a very humble man, so at his request, his body was cremated and there will be a private, graveside service at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion, Post Office Box #1740, Cumberland, MD 21501-1740. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #172, Color Guard. Michelle and Deena will always remember their dad’s great love of all kinds of music, but his love of Elvis Presley and the memories of singing and recording his songs in the family room as children is what they will cherish most. They would also like to thank all of Lou’s special friends at Cumberland Meadows apartment complex. They brought him much joy and many laughs. “I’ve lived a life that’s full, I’ve traveled each and every highway, And more, much more than this, I did it MY way.”
