He married Mary Ann Petty on May 23, 1824. She was born October 8, 1806. Her parents were pioneer settlers of Salem Township, Champaign County, Ohio. William, with his wife and family, left Ohio in 1842 and emigrated to Iowa. They emigrated by wagon train to Iowa, and settled on a farm near Eddyville, on the banks of the Des Moines River. He came to Ohio, with his parents, in 1809. He married Mary Ann Petty on May 23, 1824. She was born October 8, 1806. Her parents were pioneer settlers of Salem Township, Champaign County, Ohio. William, with his wife and family, left Ohio in 1842 and emigrated to Iowa. They emigrated by wagon train to Iowa, and settled on a farm near Eddyville, on the banks of the Des Moines River. He settled on a tract of land on the Des Moines river in Wapello County. They were pioneer settlers of that locality and made the trip from Ohio entirely by wagon train. William Black died July 5, 1856, his wife, Mary Ann, having died April 28, 1849. There on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful river valley, neath a great tree on the old farm where they settled before the Civil War, he and his good wife are buried.
