Description	:	Mrs. John W. Smit, nee Louisa De Boer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. De Boer, was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa, on November 13, 1878 (sic), and died on February 13, 1942, at 7:45 P.M., in the Hull Hospital of numerous complications. Louisa De Boer grew to womanhood on her parents farm, and was married to Mr. John W. Smit of Alton on February 18, 1902. The first three years they lived in Alton. De Boer, was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa, on November 13, 1878 (sic), and died on February 13, 1942, at 7:45 P.M., in the Hull Hospital of numerous complications. Louisa De Boer grew to womanhood on her parents farm, and was married to Mr. John W. Smit of Alton on February 18, 1902. The first three years they lived in Alton. From there they moved to a farm near Boyden, where they remained seven years. They then moved to a farm north of Hull, where they lived until they retired to their present home in Hull in 1926. To this union four children were born, namely: Walter of Sibley, A..ust of Hull, Julia (Mrs. Gerrit Hofkamp) of Sibley, and Dowie of Hull. Those surviving her are her loving husband, her four children, seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by thirteen brothers and sisters, namely Mrs. Ella Fredricks of Steen, Minn.; Albert of Orange City; Neal of Sheldon; Mrs. Jake Kleinhesselink and Mrs. H. M. Scholten of Boyden; Mrs. James E. Van Gorp of Hull; Dowie of Alton; Mrs. Jake Zwagerroan of Hospera; Mrs. Neal Moss of Hull; August of Alton; Mrs. Otto Rowenhorst and Mrs. Henry Kamminga of Moneta; and Edward of Hospers. Her parents, two brothers, namely Charles and Gossen, and a sister. Mrs. William Vander Haar, preceded her in death. Mrs. Smit was a very faithful member of the American Reformed Church and Its Ladies' Aid. She was indeed a good neighbor, a loving sister, and a sincere friend. She will be missed by a host of friends from far and near. Her many kind deeds will Iong be remembered by all who knew her. She was indeed a devoted Christian mother and will be sorely missed by the bereaved family and friend. Had Mrs. Smit lived, Mr. and Mrs. Smit might have celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary on Febrauary 18th. Sioux County Index 1942-02-19.
