Funeral services will be 10:30, Saturday, October 22, 2016, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Reverend Paul Janke officiating. Carol Janke will be the organist. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Mae’s friends. Louisa Mae Rossow Meseberg, daughter of Joseph Charles and Vernie Ida (Schmeling) Rossow, was born February 6, 1932 in Watertown, South Dakota. She was Baptized and Confirmed in St. Martins Lutheran Church and was also a member of St. Martins Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Watertown area and attended grade school at Valley View District #60. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1949, where she won the Davis Award and Valedictorian. Mae also attended one year at South Dakota State College, earning a secretarial degree. Mae was united in marriage to Arlo Meseberg on June 1, 1952 at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple lived and farmed on the Meseberg home place seven miles northwest of Watertown, which became a century farm in 2002. Through the years Mae worked as a secretary at AAA (Farm Office), Midland National Life Insurance Company, Hanten & Henrickson Law Office, Austin & Hinderaker Law Office, Watertown Monument Works, and Brown Clinic. For 17 years, Mae worked with her husband, Arlo, running the Canteen Bar, which was owned by Arlo and his brother, Lavern Meseberg. Mae was instrumental in the Salvation Army’s Friday night concerts, and also fighting the Mahoney Dam project to save her land and many others’. Arlo passed away on June 18, 2000. The couple had been married 48 years. Mae enjoyed spending time with her family, her cats, gardening and flowers, photography, collecting antiques, and listening to country western music. In her later years, she enjoyed watching TV classics. Mae is survived by her five children, Douglas Meseberg, Lorrie (Neil) Knebel, David (Connie) Meseberg, Daniel (Rita) Meseberg and Dallas Meseberg all of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Del Woodard. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlo; her daughter-in-law, Aniva Meseberg; and her grandson, Nathaniel Meseberg. Well done, good and faithful servant.
