Description	:	She was imaginative and very artistic and made little cut out animals and drawings for all her children and taught them at home when there was no school. Her parents had a large dairy and made cheese for their living. Jay and Louisa left New York in 1869, with their 2 little boys, her parents, Newell & Mary Osborne, brother Frank and sister Sarah aka Nan. they traveled by rail to Sioux City and there they outfitted and came on to Cedar County, Nebraska, where they farmed, as well as doing construction work for about 12 years. then moving to... Jay and Louisa left New York in 1869, with their 2 little boys, her parents, Newell & Mary Osborne, brother Frank and sister Sarah aka Nan. they traveled by rail to Sioux City and there they outfitted and came on to Cedar County, Nebraska, where they farmed, as well as doing construction work for about 12 years. then moving to Sheridan County. Louisa was not happy about the mail service , and set up her first Post Office at Hay Springs, and when the railroad finally made it that far, it became officially Hay Springs USPO. When the decision was made to move to Alberta, Seymour, Helen and Byron were all married. During these years n Nebraska, Jay accumulated lot of work horses and equipment. He and his sons built roads and earthen dams. Byron and Mattie followed three years later. In the book "Canadian History of Homesteading" : the homestead of Jay Van Buskirk was officially filed May of 1894 and the post office was registered to Jay Van Buskirk and located on the Homestead. This was the 1st Government Post Office at Ross Creek, Alberta, Canada. So Louisa had her 2nd Post Office. She was 4'11" - small but mighty! Contributor: Dana Sharp (48570091)
