Description	:	Louisa Blake, 97, oldest woman in Cherokee County, Iowa, and an early day pioneer, died at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 1941, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee, Iowa. Mrs Blake was born June 11, 1844, at Dorchester, N. H. Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery. Her death was the direct result of a fractured hip sustained last Sat. morning when she fell at the Mrs. Lou Condon home. Mrs. Blake leaves a daughter, Mrs. Edith Scott And a son, Fred Blake, four grandchildren, Johhny Scott Cherokee, Blanch Scott, Napa Calif.; Edna Lynch, Ayrshire, Ia; John Blake, Cherokee an 8 great grandchildren, Barbara Scott, Jack and Betty Lynch, Rolan, Russell, Donald, Muriel And Eleanor Blake. The farm, which she and John D. Blake had homesteaded in the early days, is now operated by Fred Blake. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p. m. Sun. from the Methodist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Farnham, pastor, officiated. Pallbearers were Charles Mase, Frank M. Tyner, Frank Lathrop, Alva Melton, Forrest Ware And Guy Anderson. She came to Cherokee county with the Westward sweep of migration following the Civil War and homesteaded on a farm on the prairie of what is now Afton Township. This was several years before the railroad came through. The city of Cherokee, Iowa, was little more than a frontier station. Mrs. Blake's husband, John D. Blake, died at the age of 42, years ago. He was a Civil War Veteran.
