Description	:	Lou Ann Verzani, 76, of Ponca, Nebraska passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at a local nursing home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca, NE. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M., a Rosary at 6:30 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. all at the church. Burial will be in the South Creek Cemetery in Ponca. Lou Ann was born May 1, 1934 in Sioux City the daughter of Philip F. and Emma L. (De Pover) Verzani. She attended Ponca Public School until 8th grade and then she went to St. Mary's High School in O'Neill, NE. Lou Ann went on to Briar Cliff and St. Vincent's Hospital for a bachelor's degree in Nursing. She worked at St. Vincent's hospital for a few years. Lou Ann lived in Seattle and while there, she attended the University of Washington for teaching. She then worked in Tennessee, before moving to South Bend, IN to continue work in nursing. Twenty years ago Lou Ann moved home after her parents passed away. She enjoyed life and did a lot of traveling. Lou Ann traveled to the Holy Land, Ireland, and New Zealand. She loved to do storytelling, and would often go to storytelling conventions. She also enjoyed visiting schools and libraries to do storytelling. Lou Ann lived a very good life, and had many friends throughout the United States. She liked to knit, quilt, and do crafts. Lou Ann also would go to the Senior Centers in Ponca and Sioux City, and was a Volunteer with Hospice of Siouxland for 10 years. She loved her cat Rudy, and there never was another cat to replace Rudy. Lou Ann is survived by 2 sisters: Emile Scoville of Sioux City and Phyllis Beck of Creighton, NE; and 1 brother: Robert Verzani of Federal Way, WA; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and a special niece Marilyn Horak of Homer, NE, who had taken care of her for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Paul, Frank and his wife Beverly; a niece Julie; 2 brothers in law: Robert Scoville and A.J. Beck and a sister in law Edna Verzani. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Pavlushik, Skip Bogard, Keith Jensen, and Ray Otte. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews. In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks donations be made to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or Hospice of Siouxland.
