Porter preceded her in death. Mrs. Porter was born in Surry County, N.C. on June 16, 1915 to the late Daniel Green Witt and Cecelia Zulema Witt. In addition to her parents her husbands, Harvey Gray Hennis, Sr. and Robert T. Porter preceded her in death. She was the mother of Betty Hennis Parks, married to Brice Parks, and Harvey Gray Hennis, Jr., married to Judith Parrish Hennis, all of Galax; stepson, Robert Ward Porter, married to Diane Jackson Porter of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brother to Robert Bailey Witt of Hagerstown, Md.; grandmother to James Brice Parks, Jr., Edgar Gray Parks, Christopher Gray Hennis and Ann Hennis Smith, all of Galax; and two stepgrandchildren, Bobby and John Porter; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2000 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Slayton and Rev. Don Nation officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Galax. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
