Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 20, 2009 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in State Center. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home. Louise was born on January 5, 1911, in State Center to Henry and Edna (Probst) Koppey. She married Christopher Thake on August 6, 1932. They lived on a farm near State Center their entire lives. After retiring from the farm and moving to State Center, Louise worked for 14 years at the State Center Manor in State Center. She was the first employee to be hired at the Nursing Home. Louise was a lifetime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in State Center; she served the church in numerous capacities. Prior to her death, she was the oldest living member of that church. Louise was well known for her culinary skills, which in later years were primarily directed toward baked goods which she took great satisfaction in giving away to family and friends. She was also a skilled seamstress and took pride in making many of her own clothes and also clothes for others. Her other hobby was stitchery crafts which generally had holiday or religious themes. These also were often shared with family and friends, an example of which was providing these handmade Easter Baskets as center pieces for the Easter dinner at the Villa. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to her. During the years when she was able, family reunions were a highlight of her summer activities. Her life was grounded by her faith, her family, her friends, her church and her town. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Richard) Hankom of Corwith, Iowa, a son, Daryl (Janice) Thake of Chesterfield, MO., four grandchildren, Kayla (Hankom) Halfpap, Kara (Hankom) Freeman, Lisa (Thake) Lujin and Jill (Thake) Kilgore and nine great grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, and Colin Halfpap, Renee and Ryan Freeman, Mackenzie, Carson and Payton Lujin and Riley Kilgore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher and three sisters, Frieda, Hilda, and Elsie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Louise may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church of State Center, Iowa or Iowa River Hospice.
