Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, New Salem. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. today at the chapel in New Salem with the Rev. Heather Bodwell officiating. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Louise Hoeger was born Feb. 3, 1913, at rural Almont, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Schacht) Hoeger. Raised and educated in the area, she married Fred M. Bopp on Oct. 5, 1932, at rural New Salem. Louise and Fred farmed south of New Salem until 1981, when they retired and moved to town. Louise enjoyed quilting, embroidery, playing cards and baking, but her passion was flower gardening. Her family was of prime importance in her life. A kind and generous person she supported many children's causes and orphanage ministries. Known to her grandchildren as the "tea party grandma," she was hospitable to all, whether she was welcoming them for coffee, a meal or as an overnight guest. Louise was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ, where she participated in the Women's Guild and taught Sunday school and Bible school. Her faith played an integral part in her daily life, good times and bad. Louise was also a member of the New Salem Pioneer Club and the local R.S.V.P. A dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend to all, Louise is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Vern Stayton, New Salem; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Lorraine, New Salem, Roger and Katie, Yuma, Ariz., Garry and Dona, Covington, Ga., and Larry and Yolanda, Fairview, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Huston and Olga Bopp, both of Washington state; and her brother, Raymond Haeger, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who died on Sept. 13, 1990; her sister, Clara Schwinkendorf; three brothers, Carl, Johnny and Harold; a granddaughter, Krista; and a grandson, Curtis. Louise's family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Medcenter One Hospice team for their many kindnesses and loving care.
