Mrs. Altman was born in Conway, a daughter of the late Mack C. and Irene H. Holmes. She graduated from Conway High School and Winthrop College, majoring in English and Library Science. Read More	CONWAY \| Louise Holmes Altman, 84, wife of the late Francis Marion Altman, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Conway Medical Center after a long illness. Mrs. Altman was born in Conway, a daughter of the late Mack C. and Irene H. Holmes. She graduated from Conway High School and Winthrop College, majoring in English and Library Science. Mrs. Altman was employed for one year at Mullins High School before returning to Conway and teaching at Conway High School for many years. In addition to teaching, she kept books for her husband's business and played the organ and piano for many churches in the Conway area. She was the pianist for the Conway Kiwanis Club for many years when her husband was an active member. Mrs. Altman had been a member of the Ivy Garden Club and the Fine Arts Club of Conway. She loved to play bridge and enjoyed working with her plants and flowers in her yard. Mrs. Altman was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Hal H. Holmes; and a sister, Miriam H. ''Mickey'' Webb. The family wishes to thank all the staff, nurses and CNA's at Kingston Nursing Center, Conway Medical Center and Mercy Hospice for their excellent care and tremendous love shown to ''Mama Lou'' in her last days. The family also wishes to thank Betty Hutchinson, Linda Skipper and O'Maley Wright for their loving care. Mrs. Altman is survived by her daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Rilla, Phil, and Brent Thomas of Conway; her grandson, Lee Thomas and his wife, Tanya, of Conyers, Ga.; a brother, Jack Holmes and his wife, Merle, of Conway. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in Lakeside Cemetery. A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Stiens, Dr. Bob Guffey, the Rev. Rocky Taylor and the Rev. Thom Avison officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
