Born March 7, 1895, at Pilsen, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Sklenar) Hovorka. The oldest citizen of Marion County, she would have been 107 next week. A retired grocery store clerk, she also helped care for elderly people in their homes. She never married. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic parish. Growing up in Pilsen, she moved to the Tampa community and in 1925 moved to Topeka where she worked in a grocery store for nearly 30 years. In 1960 she moved to Marion and cared for elderly people in their homes. She lived in her own home until she was 100. Survivors include a niece, Mary Lou (Mrs. Edmund) Kroupa of Marion and her family. The lector at the Mass was Marty Kroupa; rosary leaders were the Mark Jirak family; gift bearers, Amy and Abby Smith; and casket bearers were Kenny Novak, Kelly Novak, Martin Kroupa, Kris Kuhn, Stacy Smith, and Mark Jirak. Services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Mark Church of Holy Family Catholic Parish, Marion, with Father Steve Gronert officiating. Burial was in St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Pilsen.
